About the Children's Commissioner for Wales

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales was established by the Care Standards Act 2000 as an independent, statutory body. Its remit was broadened by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales Act 2001 which also set out the Commissioner’s principal aim – to safeguard and promote the rights and welfare of children in Wales. Underpinning all of the Commissioner’s work is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Comisiynydd Plant Cymru sefydlwyd Comisiynydd Plant Cymru drwy Ddeddf Safonau Gofal 2000 fel corff statudol, annibynnol. Ehangodd cylch gorchwyl y sefydliad trwy Ddeddf Comisiynydd Plant Cymru 2001, deddfwriaeth wnaeth hefyd gyflwyno prif nod y Comisiynydd – i ddiogelu a hyrwyddo hawliau a lles plant yng Nghymru. Yn tanategu gwaith y Comisiynydd y mae Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau’r Plentyn.
